Korn used the quarantine period to record an acoustic version of the song "Can You Hear Me," from the album The Nothing , released in 2019.
The new version of the track premiered last Thursday, the 28th, on SiriusXM Octane , and featured comments from vocalist Jonathan Davis about the song's production: “We just got together – me and the guys – and we did this by sending files to each other, because we’re all stuck at home. We came up with this acoustic version of the song that’s really stripped down. And I love it.”
Davis reveals his theory about acoustic versions of songs, “If it’s a good song, it usually translates well to whatever form you put it in,” he revealed. “I learned that… I remember [producer] Rick Rubin saying that it’s only a good song if it translates well with just an acoustic guitar and vocals. So, we got together and played it, and it’s a really cool and different version.”
“I love the song. It was a song I wrote back then – it was around 2014 on the road. I actually wrote the melody. I woke up and put it on my computer and didn't touch it for a few more months and then I came back to it. It's a special song for me. It's a song about depression… I'm glad people are enjoying it. And I hope they like this version,” the singer concludes.
